Baking Jom Comment 4.0

Posted by: mark

Yes, we've heard you and we are currently working hard on Jom Comment 4.0 . There will be drastic changes since Jom Comment 3.0.1 and one that you should take note of is that it will no longer support Joomla 1.0 since it is already deprecated. Other than that, threaded comments will be made possible and of course, pagination.

Most of you may have noticed that we have recently just released a new component, JomSocial. If you still have not heard about it yet, it is actually a social networking that sits on top of Joomla!.  If you want to read more about it, just head on to JomSocial's website . I have personally received a couple of queries on whether the developments of our other components will be halted and the answer is a BIG NO.

We have been working on Nice Talk 1.0 right now and still undergoing some tests at this point of time. When released however, it will be Joomla! 1.5 native and will no longer support the older version of Joomla 1.0.

What about My Blog and Jom Comment? Yes, not to worry we are currently working on My Blog 3.0 which will fully support Joomla 1.5 natively and also have a couple of new features added. ;)

Anyways, Merry Christmas in advance =)

My Blog 2.0.1 & Jom Comment 3.0.1 Released

We have recently released My Blog 2.0.1 and Jom Comment 3.0.1 which includes pretty much of bug fixes since the initial beta release. Some of you might have been wondering why are there more bug fixes as opposed to new features. The main reason is because we are actually modifying the structure of both these components to have backward compatibilities where they both work on Joomla 1.0 and Joomla 1.5 with the same set of codes.

After making these structural changes, we should see some new features added in the next major release of My Blog and Jom Comment.

You may read more on the changelogs for My Blog 2.0.1 and Jom Comment 3.0.1 at the following locations,

Coming up, Jom Comment 1.9

Jom Comment 1.9 is currently under heavy development and a few beta version has been released. There are quite a bit of changes in the release, the most important being the use of our own internal libraries instead of using Joomla API call.

We have decided to do this for a few reasons, but

Starting from Jom Comment 1.8, we will be using a completely new template system. It is a super-fast, super efficient PHP-based template system. It doesn't do the typical 'search and replace' which most template does.

On top of that, we also have a new caching system in place.  We no longer have to rebuild the comment area at every page load. Of course, if you are already using Joomla built-in caching system, your content (along with Jom Comment)  are already cached in anyway.

I run some benchmark and building Jom Comment page now takes between 0.002 to 0. 005 seconds compared to non-cached time of 0.10 to o.15 seconds! That's 75x performance increase.
