Joomla 1.5.4 new compatibility column

Joomla! 1.5.4 was released yesterday and I have to say, Joomla! team has started to tighten things up. Besides the usual security fixes, bug fixes and some small, yet exciting changes under the hood, there is this new "compatibility" colum under Extension Manage that gets some people excited.

Jom Comment system bot and our ajax system plugin got a red dot there. A couple of our user email us, worried if our component are not compatible with Joomla 1.5.4 .

CMS EXPO Chicago is a SUCCESS!!!

We travelled half way around the world just to attend CMS Expo in Chicago on May 16, 2008 (formerly known as Joomla Expo). Little that we know, the Expo has attracted over 250 participants from all of USA and some from around the world gathered at the swanky Renaissance O'Hare Chicago Hotel. The expo was a success as it was highly interactive, everybody participated in the talks and we even had a raffle.

I stand now upon the crossroads between the paths of dreams and newly acquired ambition. It was a tough struggle, but I have made my choice and put it into words, a delivered letter and now into this poignant blog post.

I am happy to announce that azrul.com team will be moving to a new office soon. Our new office is located in Metropolitan Square, Damansara Perdana. As you can read from the title, the new office comes with one of those so called 'infinity' swimming pool, where the pool is build against the edge of the building using glass. Recently, we have noticed that there are a couple of users who are actually unable to connect to our support desk located at http://support.azrul.com . While we are trying to rectify the issues with our upstream Internet Service Provider, it is actually quite difficult for us to locate the bottlenecks since most of us are able to access the site.

With the tick tock of clocks and the setting of suns, it is now near the end of 2008's first quarter. Wow! How time does seem to fly, does it not? Take a close look at our favicon. Yes, they are new, not the default Joomla favicon anymore. Believe it or not, we have been using the default Joomla favicon all this while.

So, I've created a new one, based on our new logo and website, to be released very soon.

PayPal option at Plimus

Yesterday, I get the shock of my life when I notice that PayPal option were removed from the list of payment method in Plimus (our payment gateway). Payment via PayPal, account for more than 35% of all our sales. So, what is going on here?. Some research reveal that they are worried about fraud. However, from our experience, there is hardly any fraudulent transaction from PayPal. If anything, PayPal are overly aggressive is approving new sales.

Yes everyone, Jom Comment support for Joomla!1.5 RC3 is coming. We recently noticed that there has been an ongoing rumors about Jom Comment not going to be able to support the all new Joomla!1.5 .

Jom Comment 1.9 is currently under heavy development and a few beta version has been released. There are quite a bit of changes in the release, the most important being the use of our own internal libraries instead of using Joomla API call.

We have decided to do this for a few reasons, but mainly to help us port all our apps across J1.0 , J1.5 and possibly Mambo as well.

1.9 is a pretty significant release. You can look forward to some major new features, such as reworked backend [...]

All this while, I've been working hard to make sure that all our apps runs on as many flavours of php/MySQL as possible. This means suporting php 4.0 or even the bug-ridden php 4.1.7. On the database side, we even test it with MySQL 3.0!

However, moving forward, we have decided to put aminimum requirement for all our component. Don't panic! We will still support php 4, but a minimum version of 4.3 will be required. This helps us greatly as it allows us to focus on coding and not [...]

Last (last) weekend, we had a short trip to Bangkok to attend Joomla Day Thailand. It was fun as we got to meet some Joomla core team as well as some Thailand Joomla community member. It is a little challenging at first as nobody seems to be speaking English.
