We are in the process of phasing out http://support.azrul.com site. Instead, we will launch a new members site at http://members.azrul.com . All existing users at our support site should be able to login to the new members site using their existing username(email) and password.

Why the move ?

Joomla! Day Malaysia 2008 preparation

This week is quite a hectic week for us. On top of working on JomComment 3.0 and MyBlog 2.0 , we are also in charge of organizing Joomla Daya Malaysia 2008. We are always committed to spread Joomla! love around, especially at our hometown, Malaysia. This would be our 2nd year organizing JoomlaDay as project manager, with help from Joomla-My community.

Joomla 1.5.4 new compatibility column

Joomla! 1.5.4 was released yesterday and I have to say, Joomla! team has started to tighten things up. Besides the usual security fixes, bug fixes and some small, yet exciting changes under the hood, there is this new "compatibility" colum under Extension Manage that gets some people excited.

Jom Comment system bot and our ajax system plugin got a red dot there. A couple of our user email us, worried if our component are not compatible with Joomla 1.5.4 .

I am happy to announce that azrul.com team will be moving to a new office soon. Our new office is located in Metropolitan Square, Damansara Perdana. As you can read from the title, the new office comes with one of those so called 'infinity' swimming pool, where the pool is build against the edge of the building using glass. So, in case the glass is breaks while we're having a swim, we will end up on the road!

New favicon

Take a close look at our favicon. Yes, they are new, not the default Joomla favicon anymore. Believe it or not, we have been using the default Joomla favicon all this while.

So, I've created a new one, based on our new logo and website, to be released very soon.

Let me quickly brief you on our build script. All our component are compiled together into a single zip file by an automated build script. By using this script, we no not have to manually copy and paste everything into an empty folder and zip it up manually. Our script will automatically retrieve

PayPal option at Plimus

Yesterday, I get the shock of my life when I notice that PayPal option were removed from the list of payment method in Plimus (our payment gateway). Payment via PayPal, account for more than 35% of all our sales. So, what is going on here?. Some research reveal that they are worried about fraud. However, from our experience, there is hardly any fraudulent transaction from PayPal. If anything, PayPal are overly aggressive is approving new sales.

Jom Comment 1.9 is currently under heavy development and a few beta version has been released. There are quite a bit of changes in the release, the most important being the use of our own internal libraries instead of using Joomla API call.

We have decided to do this for a few reasons, but mainly to help us port all our apps across J1.0 , J1.5 and possibly Mambo as well.

Moving forward: PHP and MySQL requirements

All this while, I've been working hard to make sure that all our apps runs on as many flavours of php/MySQL as possible. This means suporting php 4.0 or even the bug-ridden php 4.1.7. On the database side, we even test it with MySQL 3.0!

However, moving forward, we have decided to put aminimum requirement for all our component. Don't panic! We will still support php 4, but a minimum version of 4.3 will be required. This helps us greatly as it allows us to focus on coding and not [...]

Joomla Day Thailand 2007

Last (last) weekend, we had a short trip to Bangkok to attend Joomla Day Thailand. It was fun as we got to meet some Joomla core team as well as some Thailand Joomla community member. It is a little challenging at first as nobody seems to be speaking English.

I was shocked! AkoComment.com was bought by someone and they put a big Jom Comment product image and link back to us, with NO affiliates link!

Although it is a big compliment that someone has taken the trouble to spend a few bucks and some of their time doing this, I am extremely disturbed since it gives the impression that we are the one who did this on purpose.

Jom Comment new (smokin' fast!) template system

Starting from Jom Comment 1.8, we will be using a completely new template system. It is a super-fast, super efficient PHP-based template system. It doesn't do the typical 'search and replace' which most template does.

On top of that, we also have a new caching system in place. We no longer have to rebuild the comment area at every page load. Of course, if you are already using Joomla built-in caching system, your content (along with Jom Comment) are already cache [...]

Server issues

We have been experiencing some serious issues with our apache server. It keeps on dying and I have to bring it back every few hours or so. I am not an apache god, so this is a real problem. After a little digging, I found that our server have been chewing too much memory, with almost no free memory left. This all started with the release of our new products, Nice Talk and My Blog.
