Joomla! 1.5.4 was released yesterday and I have to say, Joomla! team has started to tighten things up. Besides the usual security fixes, bug fixes and some small, yet exciting changes under the hood, there is this new "compatibility" colum under Extension Manage that gets some people excited.

Jom Comment system bot and our ajax system plugin got a red dot there. A couple of our user email us, worried if our component are not compatible with Joomla 1.5.4 .

Relax, there is nothing to be worried about. Jom Comment and My Blog run natively on Joomla 1.5. There is no need for legacy mode to be turned on at all. But why it is still getting the red dot?. You see, what really happen is, Joomla simply check the plugin XML file. If it detects the old version, it will mark it as"incompatible". It has absolutely nothing to do with the php code that gets executed.

So, please don't be alarmed. An undate to those xml files will be issue within the next 12 hours. (It should be updated by the time you read this). It should take less than 1 minute to update the xml file. A couple of string replacement here and there and good.

I have to say, it is a clever way to get developer to start adopting the new xml format!

I am happy to announce that azrul.com team will be moving to a new office soon. Our new office is located in Metropolitan Square, Damansara Perdana. As you can read from the title, the new office comes with one of those so called 'infinity' swimming pool, where the pool is build against the edge of the building using glass. So, in case the glass is breaks while we're having a swim, we will end up on the road!

The new space is just over 2,000 square feet in size and will give us a little bit more space to have a proper meeting and conference room, a proper place for our servers and perhaps a kitchenette. We spend a lot of our time in the office, so I want to make it nice and cozy.

Along with the new office, we're hoping our "super secret" project will be ready for preview by then!

New favicon

the latest code from our svn, copy everything into a temporary file, rebuild the professional and standard edition and archive every single build. It is pretty neat (if I may say so myself) and saves us tons of time.

Good news is, I have just finish updating our build script. Our script now will also output, not only standard and professional edition, but also native installer for both Joomla 1.0 and Joomla 1.5 . In the next release, you will be able to download the component file that match your Joomla installation. This allow much smoother installation without having to ever turned on the legacy mode. Yes, My Blog will receive similar treatment very soon.

PayPal option at Plimus

Posted by: azrul in plimuspayment on

However, from our experience, there is hardly any fraudulent transaction from PayPal. If anything, PayPal are overly aggressive is approving new sales.

I have send Plimus an email and waiting for their response in this issues. I hope this is just a temporary issue and hopefully, PayPal payment option will be made available soon. At the mean time, if you guys prefer to pay using PayPal, please email support@azrul.com and we will give you the info required.

Coming up, Jom Comment 1.9

Posted by: azrul in releasejom comment on

mainly to help us port all our apps across J1.0 , J1.5 and possibly Mambo as well.

1.9 is a pretty significant release. You can look forward to some major new features, such as reworked backend interface, support for social bookmarking, voting features, report comment to admin, email subscription, favorite article and many more.

If you are interested to test the beta, just head to the forum at http://forum.azrul.com sign up as a member and request to be a member by writing a pm to 'mark' .

Moving forward: PHP and MySQL requirements

Posted by: azrul in Untagged  on

minimum requirement for all our component. Don't panic! We will still support php 4, but a minimum version of 4.3 will be required. This helps us greatly as it allows us to focus on coding and not too worry too much about working around php bugs. Regardless of the announcement by php developers to discontinue php4 by year end, we have no such plan. We do understand that lots of our user still uses php4 and sometimes have no control over the server. (Although, it would be nice if everyone just upgrade to php 5!)

As for MySQL, at the very least, we would require version 4.0. Those of you still running on MySQL 3, please, take a moment to uprade. If you are on a shared hosting runnng MySQL 3, you ought to start looking for a new hosting server.

What's Up At the Office?

Posted by: azrul in Untagged  on

It’s about five months since the renovations completed at our new office at Amcorp Mall. Take a look at how our office is, in it’s messiest state (when everyone’s busy with product release, with bug fixing, support e-mails and sales!)

This month’s budget includes… Decorating

Hooray! This month The Management allocates some fund in decorating our office space. We haven’t really decided on what to buy yet, but we’ve short-listed a few items that could find a place to call their new home here at the office. Unveiled in the list are:

-         mini-fridge

-         sofa set (more like a sofa-bed)

-         air-purifier

-         plasma TV *smiles* (not this month people!)

I personally opt for the mini-fridge, since I will be using it the most. But I don’t know if the rest care for a tub of Haagen Dazs once in a while? Hhhmmm…

What’s in Our Book List?

In case you don’t know, we also have a monthly budget for books. This month, we went out on a splurge for books. I personally got two books for the office, mainly in Graphic Design to help us out with the Website. Azrul got two, one’s on Ruby-on-Rails and the other’s a book highly recommended by Joel Spolsky in his blog. Here’s what we got from Kinokuniya the other rainy day:

The Little Book of Layouts – David E. Carter

www.Corporate Identity – Hector Guere

Ruby for Rails – David A. Black

Dreaming in Code – Scott Rosenberg

I got the Amazon link for the books just in case any of you like to check them out.

Everyone else in this team spend hours and hours a week scouring the Internet to search for ideas. I personally like them packed in a book. Instead of looking at a laptop screen getting lost in the process, I like to spend my time around the big bookshop at KLCC with chances of getting lost in the idea universe slimmed down in the process when looking at specialized books that capture specialized websites. Hmph.

We have been working hard last week to move to a new support system, which is now live at http://support.azrul.com . I've transferred all your purchased record to the new system. You should be able to download all updates from your account page from now onwards.

We love to help you and we are dedicated in replying all emails, but we are hoping that you'll take advantage of the knowledge base. Do spend a few minutes browsing through it before sending us an email/ticket. You might be able to solve your issues faster than typing an email. The less email we receive the more time we have to focus on doing what we love most, coding and improving the components, which eventually means that you guys get a better components!
