Baking Jom Comment 4.0

Posted by: mark

Yes, we've heard you and we are currently working hard on Jom Comment 4.0 . There will be drastic changes since Jom Comment 3.0.1 and one that you should take note of is that it will no longer support Joomla 1.0 since it is already deprecated. Other than that, threaded comments will be made possible and of course, pagination.

The recent release of Joomla 1.5.12 includes an upgrade for TINYMCE and it may affect your current site if you are using older version prior to My Blog 3.0.327. New download method implemented!

Tagged in: release , development

We have noticed a slight increase in issues with the downloads lately especially with certain users who did not receive the activation / registration email. We have introduced a new method of downloading instead to solve these issues. To access your downloads, simply click on the link at the footer of the site that says 'Download' or click here to access the downloads.

All you need to do is to provide the order reference number that you received and the email address used during the sign-up process. Once submitted, it will then bring you to a page which will list down all your available downloads.

This will definitely speed up the purchase ;)

My Blog 3.0 coming up sir!

Hi guys, Merry Christmas and A Big Happy New Year 2009 to all of you! ;) It's the first day of 2009 and I am currently working on My Blog 3.0 right now. Most of the files / folder structures are now using the Joomla 1.5 format. After restructuring these, adding new features will be much faster / easier as we only need to cater / test for Joomla 1.5. Apart from the file / folder structure changes, codes are restructured massively as well. Which also means that you'll see better / more  menu links when creating a new menu item for My Blog ;)

Feature wise, we are still currently compiling the list of what should be added. If you have any ideas in mind, do let me know. As for changes to the layout, it now displays the 'category' that the blog is posted in.

Cheers!

Nicetalk 1.0 ;)

Most of you may have noticed that we have recently just released a new component, JomSocial. If you still have not heard about it yet, it is actually a social networking that sits on top of Joomla!.  If you want to read more about it, just head on to JomSocial's website . I have personally received a couple of queries on whether the developments of our other components will be halted and the answer is a BIG NO.

We have been working on Nice Talk 1.0 right now and still undergoing some tests at this point of time. When released however, it will be Joomla! 1.5 native and will no longer support the older version of Joomla 1.0.

What about My Blog and Jom Comment? Yes, not to worry we are currently working on My Blog 3.0 which will fully support Joomla 1.5 natively and also have a couple of new features added. ;)

Anyways, Merry Christmas in advance =)

Google Gears for MyBlog

Tagged in: myblog , Google Gears

I have been looking for ways to speed up MyBlog editor loading and Google Gears caught my attention. Google Gears is basically a browser plugin by Google that provide additional functionality to your browser, among other things, caching files locally! Bingo.

To get stright to the point, we have  already implemented Google Gears support in our internal release. All javascript, including tinyMCE, css and images files will be loaded from your local cache. The editor now loads significantly faster and I am sure you will be pleased. We'll run a couple more test and will make this feature optional. I can't wait to roll this out!

Last May we were in Chicago for the CMS Expo organized by the good people at Coffee Group, USA, who happens to also organize events for Joomla Chicago user group. At the event, a lot of knowledge was exchanged about Joomla in a highly interactive environment. Many went home, having lots of fun, their questions answered and knowledge gained! The event was highly successful, and due to more than encouraging response, the good guys at Coffee Group decided to hold another CMS Expo, this time, BIGGER with 17 presenters and 26 learning sessions in  two days - more talks, more fun! Winter CMS Expo will be held in Denver, Colorado on December 4th and 5th. And we’re going to be there! Azrul will be talking about Advanced Components and Blogging with Joomla. Be sure you’ll be there and don’t miss out on this great event. Check out the details of the Winter CMS Expo here

My Blog 2.0.1 & Jom Comment 3.0.1 Released

We have recently released My Blog 2.0.1 and Jom Comment 3.0.1 which includes pretty much of bug fixes since the initial beta release. Some of you might have been wondering why are there more bug fixes as opposed to new features. The main reason is because we are actually modifying the structure of both these components to have backward compatibilities where they both work on Joomla 1.0 and Joomla 1.5 with the same set of codes.

After making these structural changes, we should see some new features added in the next major release of My Blog and Jom Comment.

You may read more on the changelogs for My Blog 2.0.1 and Jom Comment 3.0.1 at the following locations,

Google Chrome launched!

By now, you should have heard it already. Google launched a new browser called Chrome, which is available for download from http://www.google.com/chrome . My first instinct is to run all our apps through the brand new browser. So, this post kinda act like a test post. And, congratulation to google, all our component works smoothly on Chrome!.

Having a new browser is always tricky, for web developer like us, yet another browser we need to test it against, and testing does take a lot of time. On the other hand, everyone loves to see a better browser. IE sucks and microsoft weren't serious enough to enhance it. Firefox, as good as it is, are known to be extremely greedy when it comes to memory. Sudden lockups are common in Firefox and somehow we all learn to live with it.

Now, google, with its massive programming firepower gives us Chrome with tons of promises. It is still very early to tell, but so far, I am liking it.

Joomla Training

We’ve actually been thinking about this for some time already, but never came around to it until very recently. Yeah, blame it all on work. We’re so busy developing, answering support tickets, having lunch meetings that we never worked on it, until we organized Joomla Day Malaysia 2008. Joomla Day was a fun community event meant for us all Joomla lovers to gather around and talk about Joomla and share our experiences with Joomla. But during the sessions, we found out that many people would like to know more about the technical know-how of Joomla and building Joomla components.

Last year, we made a mock Joomla Advance User training for the IT department at a local university. What initially started as a 20 participant signed in for the training ended up having doubled the number of participants. We didn’t know that many people wanted to learn more about Joomla! So this year, after considering some requests e-mailed to us for Joomla training, we decided to give it a try to offer the training to Joomla users in Malaysia. The Joomla Training will be run by our very own Azrul Rahim and Toby Patterson from Joomla.org. There will be two types of courses that is one Joomla Advance Users Training and another is Joomla Development Training. We will commence training after September and we’re taking up bookings for the training now. First, if you like, take a look at our Joomla Training Page . If you’d like to book a place, you know where to find us!
